Build a simple Electric Generator

Generators are the devices that convert kinetic energy into electricity. The operation of the generators is based on the induction phenomenon, according to which, if a magnetic field moves close to a conductor an electric current will flow in the conductor.

Materials:

2 rubber rings
test tube
LED light
powerful magnets
copper wire

Procedure:

  1. Place the magnet and the cotton in the plastic tube.
  2. Attach the rubber rings to the plastic tube as shown in the figure and wrap the copper wire around the tube (500 rpm).
  3. Remove the insulation from the edges of the copper wire and connect to the LED light.
  4. Shake the tube and watch the led light!!

Explanation:

When the magnet inside the tube approaches and moves away from the coil, the coil is flowed by an electrical current that results in the LED to be switched on.
